About Me:
Vickie Lynn Biography
Currently writing and recording her first solo record with producer, Marvin Etzioni (Counting Crows, Lucinda Williams, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Lone Justice, Victoria Williams), Vickie Lynn has been singing her whole life. When you hear her sing, you quickly realize why it is her purpose on the planet, though sometimes she feels like it's a curse rather than a gift. Self-taught to sing harmonies at an early age, she honed her vocal skills in jazz choirs all through her school years and sang backup and lead in several local bands. She eventually joined forces with her husband at the time to form their band, Betty Dylan, which garnered many fans, radio play and press throughout the country as they toured in their RV for six years.
Betty Dylan opened for many national acts at some of the great clubs in the U.S. from The Bottom Line in N.Y. to the Exit/In in Nashville, to the Roxy in L.A. They opened for Buddy & Julie Miller, Rodney Crowell, Hank III, Suzy Boguss, Dan Hicks, Loudon Wainright, Drive By Truckers, The Blasters, Leon Russell, Bob Schneider and many others, not the least of which was being chosen to play at Farm Aid in 2004 to share the stage with Willie Nelson, Dave Matthews, John Cougar, Neil Young, Steve Earle and many more of their musical heroes.
Vickie Lynn has been backed by some of the most sought-after and legendary players both on stage and in the studio...such as Kenny Aronoff (John Cougar, Michelle Branch, Smashing Pumpkins, Melissa Etheridge), Bernard Purdie (Steely Dan, Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis, Hall & Oates, Todd Rundgren and Cat Stevens just to name a few), Jerry Jemmott (King Curtis, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Freddie King, Nina Simone, John Williams, Charles Earland, Roberta Flack, Lionel Hampton, Bette Midler, Chuck Berry, Arlen Roth, Wilson Pickett, The Rascals and many others)...plus MANY sidemen from New York to Nashville to Los Angeles whose names you might not know off the top of your head but whose lines and rhythms you've probably heard.
With Betty Dylan, she also hosted many nights of entertainment including interviewing artists for her own show in L.A. and Nashville called "Go Plug Yourself" which also shot a t.v. version with a live audience in Evansville, Indiana. Betty Dylan also produced a full-length movie about their life on the road and their relationship called "Kiss Me Back", which aired for many weeks on local cable in Evansville.
Vickie Lynn really enjoys singing the National Anthem at auto races, tennis tournaments, festivals and baseball games, too! It's one of her favorite songs and she does it with passion.
Vickie Lynn's first solo album is currently being recorded and should be available by Christmas 2009. Her original songs with titles such as "I'd Rather Be Your Mistress Than Your Wife", "Wedding Dress #3" and "Simple But Not Easy", express the wisdom, humor and strength of a woman who has experienced some of life's most difficult challenges but refuses to stop dreaming and laughing.
Interesting Tidbit about Vickie Lynn: Growing up in Bakersfield, Vickie Lynn babysat Buck Owen's grandkids. One night while babysitting, she heard noises in the garage and called her father across the street who came running over with a shotgun scaring the bejesus out of the neighbors who had come into the garage to work out in the Owens' home gym.
