How to Get Airplay & Reviews for Your Music--NOW!!

As a musician myself, it seems to always be an uphill battle to get my music into the hands of the right people in order to increase sales, airplay and getting gigs booked...

Wouldn't it be great if we could come together as musicians and artists in order to lend a helping hand to those in our community and gain some extra exposure ourselves?

This thread is for anyone who has any hints, tips, tricks or techniques when it comes to getting your music placed throughout the various forms of Media in today's culture.

To start things off, we've just joined a cool service called musicSUBMIT, where we as an online radio station/publication/media hub can accept submissions by artists and bands very quickly and easily!--We DEFINITELY RECOMMEND trying this service out, as plans start as little as $10/month.

Hello!

I tried music submit a few years ago and I was not really satisfied!

Perhaps their service has improved (no doubt it must have if they have survived). At any rate - I am just sharing my experience.

I was never really certain that my music actually got seen by the huge network that they have.

Thank you for the forum :)

Indeed, services that stay alive must be doing (at least) something right... As an online radio station, we've discovered many unique artists through musicSUBMIT and are only sharing this information, as we feel it is helpful to those artists that we may not have discovered without this service. Nevertheless, it is always up to the musician to determine how to get their name out there, and there very well may be better services available! If you have any to recommend, please don't hold back, and feel free to share these with our community @ WRMusicReview!!

Hello Davina,

Thank you for sharing your experience!

Do you have any services that you've found to work well that you'd like to share with our community @ WRMusicReview?

Thanks!

Hi, Renee, I wasn't satisfied, either.

On the one hand, Music Submit probably saved me a lot of time in searching the web for internet radio stations, but on the other hand, their approach seemed very spam-like. Doubt if most of the radio stations I was submitted to actually listened to my music. The responses I did get were from smaller stations that probably had more time to actually listen. Or simply had an "auto-accept" policy.

In addition, Music Submit submits to small "radio" sites that you have to become a member of, and maintain pages for. And this takes up a lot of time, which kind of negates why you sign up with Music Submit in the first place.

I'm using Music Submit right now and yes you do get some of the smaller radio stations accepting your music. But you also get others as well. I have gotten 3 FM stations already. Keep in mind you can follow up with the people that you are submitted to. Plus I did Label Submit and I'm already talking to 3 labels. So that's cool and I'm not even done with my campaign.

Hope this helps,

Yes, actually, out of the blue... Michael has called us just to check up and see if that there's anything they could be doing better!

OK, after having received literally thousands of promos from artists, labels, managers and publicists from all around the world, there are several common things that can throw a cog in the wheel...I'll list a few below:

1. CD is burned and has adhesive "stickers" on the face--this is extremely annoying when converting physical music to digital (CD --> MP3/Lossless). Also, the disc drive heats up from extra friction when disc spins...

2. The only tracklist available is printed on the CD itself--when entering digital filenames (track titles etc.), it is important to have the information printed elsewhere so those who are adding the metadata don't have to hand-copy the track titles/info/etc. from the CD face to a separate sheet of paper

3. There is no tracklist or CD is missing information in regard to the Artist/Album/Track/Release Date etc.--this information helps us best catalog the information contained on your album for cross-referencing in our databases...more information = more likelihood that you'll pop up in our query!

That is just the tip of the iceburg, and there will be more to come in the future! Until then...keep doing what you do best!
